Is your dryer producing an odd odour? That musty smell could be the result of leaving damp clothing in the dryer for too long or lint that has become moldy. It’s important to get rid of the odor quickly before the smell gets transferred to your clothes, which defeats the purpose of washing your clothes in the first place! How to get that Musty Smell Out of your Dryer
Clean your dryer lint screen: Remove the dryer lint screen and pull out the excess dryer lint and wipe it with a dry cloth. Next, use your vacuum to remove any hard to reach lint that has been backed up or clogged. Compressed air can also be used to remove lint. It’s important to do this frequently as clogged lint screens can make your dryer run inefficiently, and can be a fire hazard.
Clean the interior of the dryer drum: Firstly, mix one cup of bleach with a gallon of water. After soaking a rag and thoroughly wringing it out, wipe the interior of the dryer drum. This kills any mold living in the drum. After letting the dryer drum air dry, wipe the interior with a cloth that’s been soaked in plain water and air dry again.
Run a drying cycle with vinegar-soaked towels: After pouring white vinegar in a spray bottle, spray a few towels with the vinegar and run the towels in the dryer. Vinegar is an effective odor reducer, so it may help remove any existing smell in the dryer. Wash the towels if you want to remove the vinegar or lemon smell. This method also works with lemon juice.
